Day 1
Depart from home for the Spa town of Llandrindod Wells and the family owned 4 AA Star Metropole Hotel and Spa, your home from home for the next 4 nights. Remember your swimming costumes as this elegant hotel has a spacious swimming pool in a Victorian style conservatory.
Day 2
Travel north to Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway. A 16 mile return journey by narrow gauge steam train through beautiful Mid Wales countryside. (Train departs at 11.10 and returns to Welshpool by 13.45. There is a 50 minute turnaround at Llanfair where there is a shop and café for a light bite and pot of tea.)
Then, immerse yourself in the world of motoring history with a visit to Cloverlands Model Car Museum, the largest collection of model cars in Wales with over 20 collections and 5000 exhibits. Marvel at the pictures and memorabilia on display and discover the fascinating stories behind each exhibit. Suitable for car clubs and schools, Cloverlands offers knowledgeable guides to enhance your experience and make your visit truly memorable. But it’s not just about model cars – it’s a sublime piece of motoring social history, lovingly compiled by a passionate early motorist. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to explore the history and art of the automobile at Cloverlands Model Car Museum.
Day 3
A full day enjoying the scenery of the Beautiful Brecon Beacons and the lovely market town of Hay-on-Wye. Our drive will take us down the Wye Valley to Hay where you can enjoy the narrow streets lined with Antique bookshops in the worlds capital of second hand books. Our drive will then take us over the Brecon Beacons past the famous Storey Arms to the Brecon Mountain Railway. The line runs from Pant, near Merthyr Tydfil. Travel in one of our all-weather observation carriages, behind a vintage steam locomotive, into the Brecon Beacons National Park to see stunning views of the peaks of the Beacons across the Taf Fechan Reservoir. ( 90 minutes round trip)
Day 4
A full day heading west into the wild mountains of Mid Wales and the Elan Valley Estate. Enjoy the scenery of the fabulous Dams of the Elan Valley and its wonderful visitor centre and café. Your drive will then take you to Devil’s Bridge where you will join the Vale of Rheidol Railway to Aberystwyth. Travelling on the Vale of Rheidol Railway is the finest way to explore the stunning Rheidol Valley. Opened in 1902, the railway has been delighting passengers young and old for over a century (60 minutes). Following some time enjoying the wonderful promenade of Aberystwyth and its famous Pier your luxury coach will meet you and return for a final evening in The Metropole where you will be entertained by the Ladies of the Builth Wells Ladies Choir.
Day 5
Following a hearty Welsh Breakfast we will return home via (depending on the direction of travel one can suggest a number of stops. Eg Erddig nr Wrexham, Berrington Hall nr Leominster)
